“Houston on the Move” receives AVA Award

Houston, January 2012 – The Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals’ judges the AVA Awards, and selected Houston on the Move as a Platinum award recipient under the TV News/Programs/community access category. The AVA Awards is an international competition that recognizes outstanding work by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design and production of media that is part of the evolution of digital communication. The Houston on the Move episode receiving this award is show number 13, which had as in studio guest, Univision 45 Anchor, Osvaldo Corral who shared the story of his life and how he became a journalist. Members from the non- profit organization AVANCE shared some of the services they offer to the Houston community. In the third segment, the audience met a pair of Latina twins who cheer the Houston Aeros on! And to close off the show there was a visit to the San Jacinto Monument, one of the areas most beloved attractions; this show followed the regular pattern of Houston on the Move, always full of diversity!

Houston on the Move was created by the Houston Association of Hispanic Media Professionals in the summer of 2010. The content production team of producers, reporters, cameraman and editors made up of Broadcasting students and recently graduated journalists from different colleges in the Houston area is lead by two former Anchor/reporters. The technical production of the show is in the hands of HCC TV.

“Houston On The Move” is a half-hour, four-segment show that features motivating stories of individuals and groups who are making their mark in our community, non-profit organizations and programs that are helping Houstonians in need, local artists who are moving Houston culturally and those attractions that put locals and visitors on the move.

About Houston Association of Hispanic Media Professionals (HAHMP)
HAHMP was created 26 years ago as a non-profit organization to provide support for Hispanics involved in the gathering and dissemination of news, to encourage and support the study and practice of journalism and communications by Hispanics, and to promote a fair and accurate portrayal of Hispanics in the media. Thousands of dollars have been given away in scholarships to students of Hispanic descent majoring in a media related career.
